Land, Family & Heraldic History Research

Let us research your Family History

We can research your family history in England, Wales and Scotland at very competitive rates. Although the success of the research depends on how information has been stored on your ancestors. We can provide you with a Certificate of Authenticity guaranteeing the accuracy of the information obtained, and a beautifully hand written and drawn (calligraphic style) family descendant chart on aged parchment style paper either framed or in scroll form, together with a portfolio giving in detail all the information obtained with supporting certificates, transcripts, tracings and explanations.

The photograph on the right shows Edith and Percy Hanson taken in Hull in April 1914. Images like these can be included in Family Journals and can also be linked to specific people entered in our database (to see our lineage and see our Sepia Images page).
We also offer the following services and features:-

Edith and Percy Hanson

A Total Descent Chart, showing every ancestor found up to a given number of generations (i.e. 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 or 64 ancestors for the first to sixth generations respectively).

An Extended Family Tree Chart, showing ancestors, siblings and cousins to a given number of times removed and generations of descent.

An Achievement of Arms, if a member of your family has a grant of an Achievement of Arms or your family is associated with an Achievement of Arms or its Shield or Crest then we can also add to your family tree charts a picture, in full colour, of the arms or crest associated with each family line with a description of each Blazon of Arms.

Our Powerful Genealogical Database, Family Gathering for Macintosh by Palladium Interactive Inc. is fully GEDCOM compatible and can organise and use data about your family lineage to produce on screen descendant charts, a variety of types of Family Journals, and can save your family tree's data in a GEDCOM format which you can load into your own family tree program.

I can also offer your family or society:-

  • Archive facilities for storage of genealogical information on secure backed-up computer disks.
  • Transfer of mass written genealogical information on to our Genealogical Database to be saved in GEDCOM format or to be used for research, to produce descendant charts, journals or archives.
  • Production of Genealogical Web pages from your own family tree data using our Genealogical database which you can then upload to your own Web Site. See my example: Mackenzie-Hanson Lineage.
  • Scanning and Digital Image Restoration. Scanning of your treasured Family Photographs on to 1.44 Mb Floppy diskettes or 100 Mb Zip cartridges in whatever format you need (e.g. PICT, GIFF, JPEG, EPSF, TIFF, PSD, ILL5, PDF, BMP &c.):-
    • for use with publishing family journals, web sites or on your own genealogical database / family tree program.
    • to enhance, restore or retouch old and damaged photographs (example). By using our software we can remove creases and mould patches, rebuild lost parts, e.g. by using the colours and textures of other parts of the photograph to reconstruct lost or damages areas.

See our own Sepia Images, and example restoration work: C19th Siamese Twins.

GEDCOM stands for GEnealogical Data COMmunications, and is a standard for providing genealogical data exchange between programs, there are many different GEDCOM formats however Family and Event are the two most popular and frequently used formats. Event GEDCOM provides a complete transfer of event-orientated genealogical data and is designed to be compatible with lineage-linked systems, while providing extensive support for event-orientated systems. Family GEDCOM is a family-focussed, lineage-linked format. It uses cross-referenced pointers to connect each family to its children although it doesn't provide for as much data as Event GEDCOM. GEDCOM files usually have the extension ".ged" after their name.

Saint Catherine's House Indexes

We have access to the St Catherine's House indexes which contain an index of every registered birth, marriage and death in England and Wales since 1 July 1837.

LDS (Latter Day Saints) Ordinances

We also have access to certain LDS Ordinances courtesy of a local Mormon Church.

East Riding of Yorkshire County Archives

The East Riding of Yorkshire County Council Archives in Beverley are a valuable source of genealogical and local historic information. They possess parish registers, memorials of deeds from the East Riding Registry of Deeds, maps, plans and many other types of notable documents dating back hundreds of years.

Your Property

Easement and Land History Research in the East Riding of Yorkshire

If you live in the East Riding of Yorkshire or a neighbouring region and are interested in who, perhaps many years ago, owned your home or the land it is on, or if you wish to find out more about the history of the land or of any easements or covenants which may have existed in the past, or which may even still exist; then we can find that out for you. When complete, the work will be presented to you, with our guarantee of authenticity, in a portfolio with detailed deeds, maps and plans, and where there is a historical angle to the property we can present the portfolio with accurately detailed hand drawn maps showing images of scenes and Achievements of Arms which are of particular interest. The work can be presented on a wide selection of surfaces.

A Family Concern

We are a family concern which began in 1974 after my Grand Uncle Terrance W. Hanson had conducted extensive research into our family tree. This research I continued as I investigated my own total descent and extended family tree from the mid 1980s. I became further involved in research when I found myself researching the history of a right of way along a relatives property and successfully ascertained the precise extent of this easement and how it had been used thus dispelling any claims by neighbours of additional claims by prescription or limitation.

Since then a great deal of experience has been acquired by researching for families living throughout Britain, also Australia, Canada and USA whose ancestors had emigrated from Britain. Our work has involved researching for firms of solicitors, and chartered surveyors; I have also acted as a witness for county court land disputes to account for the research I have been asked to conduct. I will also offer advice on interpretation of the jargon often found in conveyance deeds and of what easements may affect your property or of what easements your property may benefit.
