Education
Educated at
Radcliffe High School in Manchester, Riley Technical High School & 6th Form
in Hull, Hull College of Further
Education, Manchester Metropolitan University, the McCormick Seminary College
and Leeds Metropolitan University.
Possesses an IQ of 155. He has a sense of humour, a terrible memory for names but an uncanny ability to analyse and solve problems with a strong capacity to think outside the box.
He has a habit of head-butting Castles especially
ones like Castle Leod near Strathpeffer when being shown around by
the Earl of Cromartie (the chief of
the Clan Mackenzie), Brian banged his head with some force on a medieval stone
lintel when crouching
through a low door (“Och m’heed”!); Lord Cromartie remarked that the Castle had given him a real
Mackenzie greeting! Shortly afterwards Brian’s signature in the visitor’s book
was rather wobbly!
Brian
is married to Irina, a college teacher in Art and
Graphic Design. They have a daughter, Nicolé.

Interests A fan of Hull Sharks (Rugby) and Manchester United teams. Shachmati: Brian enjoys a game a Chess or Draughts and has only once been beaten at draughts, which was by his late Russian father in law: Evgeniy Alexandrovich Vshivkov. A devout animal lover, Brian’s mum bred pedigree Cocker Spaniels for many years during his childhood. Brian’s last dog was, Heidi, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross (Staffie x (Doberman x Boston)), see picture below. Heidi died in June 2004 at the age of 16 years, see Heidi’s page. Brian would love to find a Cocker Spaniel puppy descended from Bonny and Luger, the pedigree breeding pair that his Mum had years earlier.

Genealogy Brian is very interested in genealogy and heraldry; he has a powerful genealogy program and maintains a massive genealogical database for the Clan Mackenzie Society. He also manages a database on his own Total Descent and Extended Family Tree. Brian has researched his family lines of Mackenzie, Hanson and Sackville to the origins of their names and discovered blood desents from the Royal lines of Plantagenet (King John), Wessex (King Edmund II Ironside), Stewart (Walter fitz Alan the 1st hereditary High Steward of Scotland and the later Stewarts of Atholl), Bruce (King Robert I), Dunkeld (King Malcolm III) and via king Kenneth I Mac Alpin of the Scots to the kings of Dalriada and the Picts. The earliest individual on the Mackenzie-Hanson family tree is King Bridei I of the Picts son of Maelchon who was recorded as ruling between 558-586 AD. King Bridei I appears in Saint Adomnán’s of Iona (627/8 – 704) account of the Life of Saint Columba (7 December 521 – 9 June 597 AD), King Bridei may have been converted to Christianity by St Columba although there is archaeological evidence to suggest that King Bridei may have already been a Christian. Christianity in Britannia prior to the Synod of Whitby in 664 AD, particularly in the north of the country, was Celtic and followed the pre-Nicaean practices of the Church (First Council of Nicaea in 325 AD), i.e. observing Easter on the Jewish Passover, Saturday Sabbaths and Arian Christology. The principal families in the Mackenzie-Hanson Family Stemma Total Descent are:
Brian was introduced to genealogy by his great uncle, Terence William Hanson in 1974.
